The Problem:

In our geographical location, security has been a big challenge. There are cases about abuse, robbery, theft and kidnap and there has not been a way to call for a timely rescue.

The Goal:

To make it easy to call for help or rescue or even let someone know what is happening to you and look for a quick solution.

My Role:

Our role in this project is the Lead designer and UX Researcher, Interaction design and User Interface.

Responsibilities:

Our responsibilities in this project are user research, wireframing, prototyping, mockup, usability study conduct.

User Research Summary

Security has been a thing of concern to everyone, especially as life improves and technologies are
changing. Everyday people are afraid of the unknown and don’t know who to reach out to during an
emergency. Cases of domestic abuse has been echoed everyday, robbery, petty theft, kidnap etc,
and there has not been an easy way to call for help early enough to avert some of them.

Ideation

The ideation process, sketching out possible designs.

Paper wireframes

The paper wireframes that demonstrates the inception of the design sketches.

Digital Wireframe

To make it easy for user to be able to call for help with just a click. The wireframe helps the design to layout the navigation process.

Lo Fidelity Prototype

The interaction process of the design was a bit overwhelming, so it was finally broken in several parts so that users can navigate effortlessly.

Usability Study: Findings

In the usability study, participants gave suggestions on what might be included in the app, but users were able to navigate through easily.

Findings 1

Users want to be able to write a message before sending it or have it stored in the app for a
quick rescue call.

Findings 2

Users want to be able to go private when they want
to use the tracker only for
themselves.

Findings 3

Users want to have a screen monitor that transmits to the law enforcement incidents in
real-time.

Mockups

A decision was made from the usability study to make recordings auto save, have a pause, stop and send button for easy reporting. Gender selection was added in the registration form to keep proper record of a user ID

Accessibility Considerations

1

Considering some emergency situations, a tracker button for the user was placed at the splash screen that is automatically integrated with the user ID.

2

In the settings panel, an SOS auto-message was created which user can also edit to send an immediate SOS alert to all chosen family members on the page.

3

Upon choosing police patrol, a radar that triangulates between police and user pops up to location where the rescue is needed.

Takeaways

Impact

With this app, it will be alot easier to get help from the police or even people nearby in terms of an emergency situation, particularly in my geographical location.
